This July 20th, come mingle, eat free pizza, and hear from our awesome speakers, the organizers of Hellavision Television Network! Finding time to create for yourself and with others can be difficult, but it doesn’t have to be. Hellavision Television Network has made participation in animation screening fun for over 6 years. Run by Minneapolis animators Peter Steineck and Michael Van Swearingen, the two will discuss their experience in creating a platform for artists to screen their work without barrier to entry. The duo will also discuss their animation studio ‘Heck’ and their commitment to heighten the creative work coming out of Minneapolis.

Stick around at the end for a special treat, could it be an announcement for the next Hellavision Television Network Theme??

A little more about our speakers:

Created by Peter Steineck and co-run by Michael Van Swearingen, Hellavision Television Network is an ongoing community animation project. The core of the project is a biannual animation anthology that takes the form of 20—80 minute ‘Episodes’. In total they have produced 16 episodes and 2 original features. Episodes have been screened at GLAS, Animation Block Party, Braindead Studios, The Trylon, and other venues internationally.

The format is as follows: An open call is announced with the episode’s theme, artists are given 5 weeks to submit original animation between ten seconds to two minutes long. Everything that meets the theme is then edited together in the proceeding 2-3 weeks. What you get is a unique anthology along with the camaraderie of participation.

It’s about making screening animation interactive. It is not curated, there is no financial, skill or notoriety barrier to entry. We welcome artists creating animation for the first time as well as skilled professional animators wanting to explore and experiment. It is suggested that artists make work quickly and without self-judgment.

RSVP through the eventbrite, as there’s limited tickets!
